Career Opportunities in Public Sector Banks

Banks are considered as the backbone of the Indian economy. Banks in India are growing very fast with the help of digital platforms. Due to the lucrative salary packages, many aspiring young individuals are leaning towards a job in the banking sector. Job security is also a reason behind the interest of students in Public sector banks. 

There are several exams like IBPS PO, SBI PO, SBI SO, Indian Bank PO, and many others which are conducted for recruitment of banking officials at an entry level. The minimum age required for most of the banking exams is 18-20 years. There are various diverse job roles in the banking sector like managing client bank accounts, including opening and closing accounts, and overseeing transactions. Evaluating overdrafts, loans, deposits, payments and withdrawals.  

Let’s take a look at different Designations in Banking jobs. 

Sub – staff

Sub staff is the lowest post in all types of banking sector. Role of these people is as a sweeper or a peon. Eligibility for sub-staff is 10th pass in most of the banks. Scope for these employees to increase their post is available but they should have the required qualification, skills and qualify the entrance exam of that post. The salary of a sub-staff is between INR 9560 to INR 18545 per month.

Bank Clerks

The application form filled by the students is maximum in this post. Eligibility for this post is graduation from any stream having aggregate marks of 60%. Candidates’ age should be between 18 to 28 years. Basic work of a clerk is opening of  account, passbook entry, fixed deposit opening, etc. Basic computer and communication skills should be good for this post. Salary of a clerk in an Indian bank is around INR 7200 to INR 19300 per month. 

 

Bank Specialists 

Banks require specialists in different departments like engineering, marketing, systems (IT), public relations, agriculture and law. A banking specialist manages all electronic banking systems, including ATMs and online banking services, for an institution. Eligibility of a bank specialist is a bachelor degree in professional course whose skills are required by the bank. Salary of a specialist in a bank is between INR 30000 to 38000. 

Probationary officer (PO)

This post is considered to be very good in the banking field. A Bank PO has to work as a Public Relations Officer, handle customer complaints and address various customer related issues. It also includes managerial work such as supervising the employees under the Clerical cadre, managing cash flow, loans, mortgages and finances. Eligibility for Bank PO is graduation in any discipline from recognised university. Entrance exams are conducted by IBPS and SBI for PO posts in banks. You are also promoted to Bank PO from clerical position in many years and also according to your skills. Initial salary of a Bank PO is above INR 40000. 

Manager or Assistant manager

To become a manager in Bank is difficult as it requires a lot of experience. There is no entrance exam for the manager post. A minimum work experience of 7 to 10 years is required for a manager post. An MBA candidate can get a promotion with 5 to 10 years of work experience. The salary of a manager is approximately above 55,000.

Grade “B” officers of RBI

RBI is the central bank of the country. The guidelines of banks are regulated by the RBI. RBI serves various essential functions for the country from managing the commercial banks to helping the government of India deal with financial issues in the given fiscal year. It also contributes to nation-building. Entrance exam is taken for the recruitment of RBI officers and various other posts of RBI. Eligibility for RBI officer post is graduation in any stream with minimum of 60% marks. Starting salary of an RBI officer is INR 35,150.
